The Chopard L.U.C. Pro One GMT represents an era when Chopard boldly combined true haute horlogerie with a rugged, high-performance diving tool. Produced from roughly 2004 to 2009, this watch is an emerging classic that punches far above its weight class. It offers a compelling alternative to mainstream sports pieces from brands like Rolex or Omega.
The beating heart of this timepiece is where Chopard’s high-horology pedigree truly shines. Developed with Michel Parmigiani, and heralded as a favourite by Philippe DuFour, the Calibre 96 that forms the basis of many L.U.C watches—including this one—is a micro-rotor masterpiece that would be just as at home in something from Patek Philippe. It’s a shame it can’t be seen, really, but what can be seen are the myriad details that tell you that this is something truly special. The black and orange-accented dial incorporates a sunburst pattern radiating from the logo in that trademark L.U.C way, out to the jewel-like hour markers. A standout feature is its bidirectional 24-hour GMT bezel, which operates on a crisp 120-click mechanism. The bezel is capped in sapphire and features fully-lumed indicators that glow a brilliant green in low-light.
